El viernes 6 de febrero del 2008 se inaugura la colectiva Hot!Hot!!Hot!!! en City Art Gallery de San Francisco. Como el nombre sugiere, se trata de una muestra de arte erotico. Las piezas con las cuales participo son las siguientes:

Name of the show: THE LIVING MAP: geotaging the dreams Kind: A multimedia interactive installation Where: The Blue House When: February 7, 2009 8 pm to 10 pm Who: Valentina Vitols and Ytaelena López Description: THE LIVING MAP intent to do a cartografy of the hopes of the people that moves all around the America Continent. The map have windows with photografies of childs (made by the Seattle based artist Valentina Vitols) and drawings of adults from Latin America (made by me), in a effort to give a human face to the abstract notion that we have of America (the whole continent). The people are invitingto write in post-it and locate in the map the place that they would like to be right now and why.

Estaba tan ocupada tratanto de sobrevivir que me olvidé que, hace mucho tiempo atrás, había mandado mi autoretrato a Projekt30, una galería virtual de EEUU.

Tengo mucho que agradecerle al 2008, especialmente las oportunidades que me ha dado con respecto al arte. Una de ella fue mi participación con la obra de arriba en la muestra 85@85 en la galería MiArte de Coral Gables, FL. Este espacio tiene una especial significación para mí por cuanto durante fui una asidua visitante de esta galería por casi dos años. No podía evitarlo, me quedaba a mitad de camino entre mi trabajo y el estacionamiento. ;)
Si aún no han visto esta maravillosa colectiva, se las recomiendo. Son 85 obras de 85 artistas de diferentes procedencias, exhibidas en esta minúscula pero encantadora galería. Y como bono adicional, les cuento que este viernes 2 de enero es viernes de galerías en Coral Gables, es decir, todas las galerías abren sus puertas de 7 a 10 pm para que te tomes un vinito y la pases "chevere", como dicen en mi patria.
Sé, con el favor de Dios y trabajo duro que me va a ir muy bien el año que viene. También sé que no soy la única, por cuanto a ustedes también les va a ir excelente. Lo importante es no perder la fé.

López also likes to play with the limits of the “politically correct” concept. She considers it a bet: she goes all the way with taking objects out of context, as much as art allows. “Galleries can be a safe haven for this, and, if someone doesn’t like it, at least it’s tolerated because it is in a gallery.” López says. It can also be dangerous; with "The Virtual Afterlife," an installation about gangs in her neighborhood, she feared for her safety. She wanted to photograph the street altars built in honor of violence victims, but got scared. She ended up—along the participating gallery—inviting people to write their condolences. More than 1,000 people got involved.
López relies strongly on installations. In preparation for these, she researches the community she will be working in. Usually, she selects a topic prompted by an impulse, harvesting ideas and concepts inside herself for several weeks or months. She gets as much information as she can from the web, from personal interviews, and statistic research. López is always hungry for understanding. She can’t stop at the “how,” and needs to step into the "why." “Maybe it's the nature of the topics that I pick: unfairness, paradoxes,” López says.
